 MERIT AWARDS OVERVIEW

ABC Mississippi recognizes excellence in construction quality each year with our annual Merit Awards competition. The year 2020 represents our 34th annual competition. Through this program, ABC Mississippi seeks to honor contractors whose work exemplifies the high degree of quality that is common within ABC Mississippi membership. Merit Award eligibility, judging criteria, categories application requirements and award presentation details are below. Please click the button below to view our 2020 winners.

JUDGING CRITERIA  Entries will be judged on the basis of difficulty, unusual features, contract time, budget and quality of construction. Project photos and an accurate project narrative is critical for determining merit.

PROJECT CATEGORIES  Please click here to download a printable PDF of all project categories. Categories 1-12 are for companies that perform general contracting or construction management. Categories 13-22 are for companies that perform specialty contracting and are not acting as the general contractor or construction manager. Out-of-state projects are noted with a check box on the online application. There is no separate category for out-of state and out-of-state projects are accepted.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS  All 2020 applications will be submitted online. A total of four entries may be submitted with no more than two projects per category, per company, including subsidiaries. Separate online entries are required for each project. Online applications and payment must be received by Noon on Thursday, October 8, 2020. No exceptions will be made. Each application must include:

• Project Name, Location & Owner Name
• Architect & Engineer Names
• Four (4) digital color project photos with a resolution of 300 dpi or greater.
• A project narrative which is a project description in a Word document that highlights project’s key features. Project Narratives must be in 12 point font, double spaced and limited to a single page. To maintain anonymity, please do not use your company name in the description or company letterhead. The following items must be included in the Project Narrative: 
  • Project Name
  • Project Scope
  • Completion Time
  • Safety Information
  • Project Summary
  • Letter of Recommendation from Architect or Owner (OPTIONAL)
• Payment of $275 per entry either via credit card online or in the form of a check must reach ABC Mississippi by Noon on Thursday, October 8, 2020, for the entry to be eligible. If paying online, all entries can be paid for in your first submission. Read online instructions carefully. If paying via check, it is not necessary to write one check per entry. One check times the total number of entries should be made payable to ABC Mississippi, 5165 Old Brandon Road, Pearl, Mississippi 39208. 

WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT & AWARD PRESENTATION  All winners will be announced on October 15, 2020 and awards will be presented at our Virtual Merit Awards celebration on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 12:00 pm. Online registration for this virtual event is available at abcmississippi.org/virtual. A link to attend this event via Zoom will be available on this page on November 20, 2020.
