The beneficiary of this year's BBQ Contest is Magnolia Speech School. This money is being raised in memory of ABC Mississippi member and past chairman, Stanley Mangum. Jane Helen Jones, Stanley's granddaughter was a student at Magnolia. Stanley was big supporter of the school and what it did for his family. Check out this amazing video to learn more.

The following highlights the agenda for our BBQ Contest. Participants can start cooking as early as they'd like to, however, there is no security onsite.

Contest Rules

  • The ABC Mississippi BBQ contest is not a professional contest and does not have professional judges. The contest is purely for fundraising and fun. No professional cooking teams are permitted. 
  • A team registration covers four (4) participants. 
  • There will be three (3) judges in each food category. Teams must bring enough food for judges only. All left over foods may either be distributed to the crowd or boxed for The Lord's Supper organization to feed the homeless. Please ask ABC Mississippi team members for to go boxes.
  • All teams will be provided with a registration packet (4 t-shirts, team number, pre-numbered judging containers and rules).
  • All cooking locations are on a first come, first serve basis (1 and 1/2 parking space). Advance setup permitted but no security will be provided.
  • Teams must provide all desired grilling items including: food, grills, grilling utensils, tables, chairs, tents, sampling dishes for crowd, judging box for crowd favorite, and disposal of all used coals and cooking debris.
  • Teams must provide any additional desired company or team related signage.
  • Coolers are permitted. 
  • Garnishment is optional but not required.
  • Appetizers are optional and for crowd sampling only.
  • Pork butts & shoulders are accepted and can be marinated the night before. 
  • Pork ribs & chicken must be prepared onsite.
  • Each team must submit food for three (3) judges (per category) in containers with official team number affixed.
  • All food will be scored by judges based on appearance, taste/flavor, and tenderness.
  • To maintain anonymity, all judging will be number based. Food will be picked up from your cooking location by an official food carrier. Do not bring your food to the judges.
  • No refunds will be issued for any entry fees.
