Chairman's Message

Greetings ABC Mississippi family and construction industry friends.

I am honored to be your Associated Builders & Contractors of Mississippi chairman for 2021. This position is rich with a history of exceptional leaders that are a who’s who of Mississippi construction industry professionals. I am certainly humbled and proud to follow in their footsteps. Let me take this opportunity to thank Dupree Petty, our 2020 chairman, for his leadership and guidance through this most challenging time in our history. Dupree has been a steady hand at the wheel for ABC Mississippi.

As I mentioned, we are experiencing the most challenging times in our history, a worldwide pandemic. Our Nation and world have changed. How we communicate and interact has changed. I believe the construction industry has adapted well to this change. After being deemed essential, our industry has remained strong throughout most of 2020. However, 2021 will not be without obstacles. I believe these obstacles are fourfold: (1) uncertainty related to Contract Awards affecting industry backlogs; (2) volatility of construction material pricing and availability; (3) continuing workforce shortage issues; and 4) political uncertainty.

Our Nation’s political situation has dramatically changed. As the new presidential administration and Congress settles in, ABC will be monitoring and working diligently to protect the interest of the construction industry. Our Free Enterprise System and Merit Shop Philosophy must be defended. Be assured that your national and state ABC leadership will do all in our power to preserve our vision. “With Challenges Come Opportunity”. Please remain engaged!

As for ABC Mississippi, ladies and gentlemen, your association remains strong. Our chapter consistently ranks at the top nationally in membership numbers and membership retention. Of course, this is the result of an excellent staff. Lee Nations, your ABC Mississippi President and CEO, leads a team of industry professionals that I believe are second to none. Likewise, our association remains financially strong. A competent financial team is led by our association Treasurer, Larry May, who also serves as the Treasurer for ABC National.

In order to remain strong, we must rely on individuals like you! I challenge you and our member companies to continue your support of ABC Mississippi. We must not let the challenges presented by COVID-19 and political uncertainty distract us from our mission of support for the Merit Shop Philosophy and Free Enterprise System in our state and nation. Please renew your memberships and sponsorships if you have not already. Likewise, please continue your financial support as well as participation in our events throughout the state. With God’s guidance and grace, we will come through these times a stronger, wiser, and more united association.

Again, I am proud to serve as your chairman this year. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.  This association is worthy of our time, energy, and support so please join me as we navigate through this year. I look forward to seeing you at many ABC Mississippi events throughout 2021.

Fred Tull
2021 Chairman
